An ophthalmologist diagnoses and treats all eye diseases, performs eye surgery, and prescribes and fits eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct vision problems.
An optometrist addresses primary eye health, such as performing eye exams and vision tests, detecting vision problems, and prescribing corrective treatments such as glasses, contact lenses and medications
For vision concerns your child can see an opthalmologist or optometrist. Opthalmologists often have a longer wait list. If there are concerns for prolonged blocked tear ducts, eye crossing, eye trauma, or certain eye diseases we would recommend an opthalmologist.
